Brief

Austin Reynolds Limited was appointed to deliver a comprehensive signage solution for Dulwich College, one of London’s leading independent schools. The brief was to design a modular wayfinding system that enhances navigation throughout the historic campus while respecting its distinguished architectural character. The scope included external building identification signage, interchangeable directional wayfinding, vinyl graphics for glazing, and post mounted external assembly point signage to support emergency protocols.

Solution

Our team carried out a detailed site survey to identify key decision points and traffic flows throughout the campus. A modular signage system was chosen for its long term flexibility and ease of updates, allowing the College to adapt the scheme in the future without a full replacement.
External Building Signage
We installed external building signage using robust, weather resistant materials designed to maintain visual clarity and durability over time. Directional signage was positioned at key pedestrian routes and entrances, enhancing accessibility for visitors, staff, and students. In addition, we applied vinyl lettering to external glass windows to aid wayfinding while reinforcing the school’s brand identity in a subtle and contemporary way.
Assembly Point Signs
External assembly point signage was mounted to galvanised posts and clearly labelled with compliant safety messaging and high visibility graphics, ensuring alignment with health and safety regulations.

Outcome

The project was delivered on time and to a high standard, significantly enhancing the navigational experience across the Dulwich College campus. Visitors now benefit from a logical, easy-to-follow signage system that reduces confusion and improves the overall professionalism of the site. The modular design means the College can adapt or expand the system with minimal disruption or cost, ensuring long term value.

Staff and students have responded positively to the improvements, highlighting clearer routes to key destinations and a stronger sense of cohesion across the campus. The addition of assembly point signage also strengthens the College’s health and safety compliance, giving reassurance to parents, staff, and students alike.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful, well executed signage can make a meaningful difference to the functionality, safety, and aesthetics of a complex site like Dulwich College.
