Brief

The objective of this project was to modernise the signage throughout the East Berkshire Golf Club estate while preserving traditional design elements dating back to 1903. Key priorities included clear communication, refined product design, and practical functionality.

Solution

In collaboration with the Club and Course Managers, we conducted multiple site visits to fully understand the signage requirements, optimal locations, and the club’s expectations. A phased implementation was planned over several months to align with the club’s summer event schedule.
Bespoke Signage
The initial phase focused on the area surrounding the first tee and the newly developed state of the art putting green. With support from our material suppliers, we designed a clean, impactful signage solution. The primary sign, positioned near the putting green, featured a light oak timber effect aluminium frame with dual sided panels. One side included two lockable notice boards for club and course updates, a timing clock to help players manage tee times, local rules (which vary by course), interchangeable message sliders, and a course map. The reverse side displayed the updated WHS index lists along with the names of past Club Captains and Men’s & Ladies Club Champions.
Clubhouse & Car Park Signage
Around the clubhouse and car park, the same signage system was applied. Reserved parking spaces for the Club Chairman, Head Professional, and others featured single timber effect posts with base plates fixed to tarmac, supporting digitally printed signs. A custom fingerpost sign was also installed, using powder coated directional fingers with vinyl graphics to guide members and guests to various facilities.
On Course Signage
Additional on course signage included custom divot bag holders with messaging panels encouraging players to repair divots and pitch marks, as well as a short game area sign outlining safety guidelines and usage rules. These signs also utilised the bespoke timber effect aluminium frames.

Additional Signage Elements
Although not originally part of the club’s scope, we also updated the health and safety signage along the bridle path crossing the course. These signs were fabricated from aluminium composite panels mounted to existing steel posts.

Outcome

The completed project delivered a cohesive and modern signage scheme throughout the club, enhancing its visual appeal while honouring its heritage. The transformation was immediate and well received, with the club expressing strong appreciation for our commitment and collaborative approach in achieving their vision.
